Primary Function

The Analytics & Visualization Coordinator is responsible for the oversight and coordination of analytics (e.g. reporting, forecasting, predicting), CAD services, data distribution, mapping services, and artificial intelligence within the Data, Analytics & Visualization team. The Analytics & Visualization Coordinator works closely with project managers, analysts, and business usersfacilitating the development, deployment, support, and maintenance of analytics reports, dashboards, and mapping. They play a pivotal role in analyzing, informing, identifying trends, and supporting stakeholder data-driven decision making.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Participate in a variety of management activities with staff including hiring, performance management, professional development, discipline, business plan development, setting priorities and objectives, budgeting, and labour relations.
  • Understands business outcomes and objectives, ensuring alignment with analytics and visualization related functions to achieve targets.
  • Collaborates with department users to identify their analytics and visualization requirements and improvements.
  • Responsible for the governance and promotion of the citizen development program.
  • Coordinate mapping and reporting standards including symbology, visualizations, engineering specifications, and product templates.
  • Coordinate the distribution of data to internal and external clients, in line with data distribution policy.
  • Participate in developing data distribution and data sharing policy and service standards with partners such as HRM, the Province of Nova Scotia, educational institutions, and other business partners.
  • Organize, co-ordinate and supervise the day-to-day work of Analytics & Visualization staff involved in analytics (e.g. reporting, forecasting, predicting), CAD services, data distribution, mapping services, and artificial intelligence.
  • Coordinate the development, deployment, support, and maintenance of analytics reports and dashboards, mapping products, and purpose-built mapping applications.
  • Collaborate with Data & Integration work group to ensure data quality, integrity, and security in the production of analytics and visualization products.
  • Collaborate with the Data & Integration Coordinator to align the data distribution and data sharing policies with the data governance program.
  • Provide project management services related to operational projects including project planning, budgeting, quality control, documentation, and reporting.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to the Analytics & Visualization team.
  • Performs other related duties as may be assigned.
Reporting Relationships
  • Reports to: Manager of Data, Analytics & Visualization
  • Supervises: Engineering Information Technicians Data Analysts

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience
  • Education:
    • Computer Science / Information Technology / Geomatics degree or related discipline. Other equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of five years related experience in data management, data analysis and enterprise application coordination in a corporate, multi-site technology-based environment; including 2 years in a coordinating applications or staff supervision role.
Other Requirements
  • ITIL Foundation Certification, must be willing to obtain certification within 1 year of obtaining position.
  • GIS Professional Certification (i.e. GISP) is considered an asset.
  • TOGAF or other IT architecture framework certification considered an asset.
  • Risk Management Certification is considered an asset.
  • Access to reliable transportation on an ongoing basis.
  • Must be willing to undertake and maintain the following safety training:
    • First Aid
    • Globally Harmonized System (GHS) (Formerly WHMIS)
    • Additional safety training as identified based on legislative and operational requirements.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Experience in managing a team of resources.
  • Experience in administering and/or developing web, mobile, or desktop applications using various frameworks and technologies.
  • Working knowledge of common enterprise infrastructure systems, including operating systems, database systems and management tools.
  • Knowledge of both theoretical and practical aspects of project management.
  • Experience with software design, principles, patterns, and implementing best practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a team environment to accomplish organizational goals.
  • Excellent knowledge of business intelligence applications.
  • Excellent knowledge of the use of GIS and CAD systems in a utility environment.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office products.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communications skills and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Strong analytical & problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge in water distribution and wastewater collection systems considered an asset.
