Primary Function

As a Human Resource Business Partner (HRBP) you will act as a trusted  strategic partner to all business leaders and provide expertise and support in a broad range of human resources functions including employee relations, labour relations, talent management, coaching, performance management, corporate policy development and workforce planning to ensure consistency in application. You will be responsible for providing advice and coaching to leadership, supervisory and management levels, building and maintaining strong relationships with all employees, and communicating and delivering various people focused programs and initiatives to the business. The HRBP plays a significant role in the development and implementation of strategic People & Culture plans and the provision of HR support to meet organizational goals.  

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Collaborate in the implementation of People & Culture initiatives aligned to our annual business plan and strategic plan objectives and ensure consistency in application.  
  • Responsible for leading all talent management strategies including workforce planning, succession planning, and developing talent pathways for employees.
  • Provide employee relations by providing guidance, fostering an engaged workforce, positive working environments, and inspiring individuals to be part of an impactful team.
  • Provide effective, compliant, and reliable internal client service, labour relations and resource management, performance impact or progressive discipline.
  • Provide leadership supports and development to empower, inspire and develop talent as well as grow their coaching and management skills.
  • Work with leadership and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention.
  • Participate in the development and updating of policies with respect to organizational need and as required due to changes in legislation while ensuring there is consistent corporate application.
  • Collaborate on Workers’ Compensation Board claims, Return to work plans and leave of absence support and communications with union, employees, managers, and payroll.
  • Keep abreast and research current and potential labour relations issues and participate in the administration of the day-to-day labour/employee relations activities including the provision of advice, interpretation and processing of grievances and strategic planning for collective bargaining. 
  • Ensure all legislative (federal and provincial) requirements are met and keep up to date on all legislative issues as related to all Human Resource functions. 
  • Maintains current knowledge of trends/developments through networking with government agencies, regulatory bodies, consultants, and other sources.
  • Replace and assist the Manager People & Culture as required including attendance at various Committees as a non-union representative.
  • Performs other related duties as may be required.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience

Education: 

  • A university degree in a related field and ideally hold a CPHR (Chartered Professional in Human Resources) designation or be willing to obtain. (Other suitable equivalent combinations of directly related formal education and experience may be considered).

Experience:

  • Minimum 3-5 years of broad related Human Resources experience in various aspects of Human Resources. 
  • An acceptable combination of education, training, and/or experience relevant to the position being staffed would be considered. 
  • Experience in a unionized environment would be an asset
Other Requirements

 

  • CPHR (Chartered Professional in Human Resources) designation is considered a high asset
  • Must be willing to undertake and maintain the following safety training:
  • First Aid
  • WHMIS
  • Additional safety training as identified by legislative and operational requirements
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Above average knowledge of Acts and other legislation affecting all areas of human resources.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact with all levels of the organization; both orally and written.  
  • Ability to maintain a professional demeanor and confidentiality to build organizational trust and credibility. 
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, sound judgment and handle ambiguity to resolve complex employee relations issues and address grievances.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a team environment to accomplish organizational goals.
  • Demonstrated supervisory and leadership skills and behaviours.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, encourage and manage change.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail while maintaining a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to multi-task while remaining flexible to manage multiple and competing priorities.
