Precautionary Boil Water Advisory in Effect for Customers Impacted Effective Immediately

Halifax Water is advising customers impacted by the Waverley Road watermain repair that the precautionary boil water advisory issued on Sunday, December 7, has been lifted effective immediately.

To lift the Boil Water Advisory, Halifax Water has been continuously monitoring the system and has completed sampling as per Nova Scotia Environment and Climate Change (NSECC) and the Medical Officer of Health (MOH) requirements. 

Test results confirm that all drinking water samples have met the requirements established by NSECC and the MOH, therefore the precautionary boil water advisory can be lifted immediately.  

 Halifax Water would like to thank its customers for their cooperation and patience as crews restored service and completed the appropriate sampling necessary to lift the advisory. We apologize for any inconvenience caused.

Update - Waverley Road - Precautionary Boil Water Advisory Remains in Effect  

Advisory impacts customers in the communities of Waverley Road, Spider Lake, Montague Road, Keystone Village, Port Wallace, Montebello, Craigwood Estates, and Avenue du Portage.

Halifax Water is reminding customers that the Boil Water Advisory remains in effect for those impacted by the Waverley Road watermain repair (see map below) until further notice.

Staff have conducted water quality testing in the section of the system affected and remain in communication with Nova Scotia Environment and Climate Change (NSECC) and the Medical Officer of Health. In the interest of public health, the advisory remains in effect until the regulator is satisfied with the results.


Update - 6:00 PM on December 7, 2025

Halifax Water crews have repaired the Waverley Road watermain, and the system is being returned to service. Customers in the impacted area (see map of the affected service area attached) should begin to observe their water pressure returning to normal this evening and are advised to continue boiling their drinking water as a precaution until further notice as noted below.

This is a precautionary advisory and is based on the prolonged loss of pressure resulting from yesterday’s (December 6, 2025) watermain break. The Boil Water Advisory is issued in accordance with permit requirements from Nova Scotia Environment and Climate Change (NSECC). Halifax Water continues to monitor water quality and is communicating with NSECC and the Medical Officer of Health.

Update - Waverley Road Watermain Repair - Precautionary Boil Water Advisory Remains in Effect for Impacted Customers 

Advisory impacts customers in the communities of Waverley Road, Spider Lake, Montague Road, Keystone Village, Port Wallace, Montebello, Craigwood Estates, Avenue du Portage 

Halifax Water crews continue to advance work on the Waverley Road watermain repair, which occurred yesterday, December 6. Overnight, crews isolated the pipe break and were able to limit the number of locations without water service to approximately 75. 

Customers in the impacted area (see map of the affected service area below) that now have service should boil their drinking water as a precaution until further notice. 

As of this morning, approximately 2,000 customers are under a precautionary boil-water advisory. This includes customers along Waverley Road, Spider Lake, Montague Road, Keystone Village, Port Wallace, Montebello, Craigwood Estates, and Avenue du Portage.  

As water is restored to this area, and, if after 1:00 PM December 6, 2025; 

  • you had no water – boil before use 
  • you have/had discoloured - run clear before use 
  • you have/had normal or low pressure – no action required 
  • you are unsure – boil before use  

If a customer determines that their property is within the impacted area Halifax Water is advising these customers that the water can still be used; however, it should be boiled for at least 1 minute before using water for:

  • drinking 
  • preparing infant formula 
  • making ice cubes or juices 
  • washing fruits or vegetables 
  • cooking 
  • brushing teeth; or  
  • any other activity requiring human consumption.
